Speaking Out Against Sexual Misconduct

July 2nd, 2020

The National Council of Delta Epsilon Psi Fraternity Inc. has recently been made aware of sexual misconduct allegations against members of the organization. As an organization, we have a zero-tolerance policy for sexual misconduct of any kind. We are looking into each case carefully, giving each the necessary undivided attention it respectfully deserves. To the brave individuals who have come forward with their stories, we understand we will never fully comprehend the pain you are experiencing, but we support you, we hear you, and we will stand by you.

Sexual misconduct is emotionally, mentally, and physically harmful to the victim; in no way is such behavior permitted or tolerated by the Fraternity. We reaffirm that Delta Epsilon Psi does not condone any form sexual misconduct, sexist behavior, sexual harassment, sexual violence, or sexually abusive behavior on the part of our members. Such behavior is unbecoming of a Brother of this Fraternity, and any member who exhibits such behavior, or seeks to protect such behavior, has no place in our organization. This mandate applies to all Brothers of Delta Epsilon Psi, both active and alumni, and encompasses any misconduct prior to attaining membership. We can not, and will not, stand by and allow for these crimes to go unpunished. We will take appropriate action as deemed necessary upon notification, including, but not limited to, termination of individual memberships, revocation of charters, and with permission of the survivors involved, disclosure of information to relevant authorities.

Brothers, we must take this time to remind ourselves of our duties not only as Men of Reverence, but also as global citizens. We have grown to become an organization privileged with a platform to spread awareness and knowledge, but with this comes the responsibility to share said knowledge and hold ourselves to a higher standard. The Fraternity is actively working to dismantle rape-culture within the Fraternal and South Asian community. This is a process that requires education as well as accountability, and Delta Epsilon Psi is committed to creating that change. We, as Brothers of this Fraternity, must also hold one another accountable and speak up if an incident arises. It is not enough to condemn misconduct; to affect change, we must use our voices to shed light on the issues at hand and lift the voices of survivors who come forward.

The National Council of Delta Epsilon Psi encourages survivors to share their stories if and when they feel comfortable, in any way they feel comfortable. To anyone who has knowledge of any misconduct regarding a member of our organization, please reach out via email to [email protected]
