Xi Colony Becomes Official

Recognition

The past two years have consisted of relentless hard work onbehalf of the newly inducted brothers at Drexel University. Communicating withboth the school’s Fraternity & Sorority Life as well as Delta Epsilon Psi’sNational Council, the young men at Drexel received Interest Group status at thebeginning of the 2009-2010 academic year. Currently, the group has attainedprovisional recognition and is looking forward to full participation in all Greekactivities, especially hosting service events, during the upcoming school year.Drexel’s members will be established as the Xi Colony—the first inPhiladelphia—of Delta Epsilon Psi.

Local Impact

Ever since the group first developed its interest in establishingDelta Epsilon Psi on Drexel’s campus, its members have met, and in some casesexceeded, national requirements. Over the past two years, Drexel’s group hasraised over $1,500 for the fraternity’s primary philanthropy, Juvenile DiabetesResearch Foundation.

Per member, Xi Colony has averaged over 20 service hours perterm since Fall 2008. One form of ongoing service that the group has been apart of involves the promotion of early childhood schooling and guidance; themembers volunteer weekly at a local child care center adjacent to Drexel’scampus. The Caring Center (http://thecaringcenter.org/)is a not for profit organization formed for the community by the community,supporting family development through early childhood education.

Relay for Life is a 12-hour team event filled with fun,food, and friendship that takes place at locations and communities around thecountry in support of Cancer research. In 2008, the members at Drexelparticipated, and raised over $1,200 for the American Cancer Society. As anInterest Group in 2009, Xi Colony expanded on the previous year by raising$3,376, first out of all participants at Drexel’s Relay for Life. 

 Greek Week is anannual competition held on Drexel’s campus during the spring term. Everyfraternity and sorority participates in order to promote Greek awareness andspirit. Events include a step/stroll competition, talent show, tug of war,banner designs, and many more. In its first year as an organization on campus,Xi Colony placed first amongst Multicultural Greek Council fraternities. Theexperience that these young men have gained over the past few years will allowfor Xi Colony’s continued success and growth. With a promising future ahead,Drexel University can expect the Xi Colony of Delta Epsilon Psi to set theirgoals even higher next year.
