On April 10th, the brothers of Delta Epsilon Psi Zeta Chapter hosted their 4th Annual Sugar Free Bowl. The event required weeks of planning and organizing. During these weeks, the brothers balanced school work and tasks for Sugar Free Bowl—from contacting local businesses for sponsorship to organizing meetings with the Student Government to promoting the event. 

 

The brothers of Zeta Chapter gathered at the Baylor BSB fields at 8:00 am and started setting up for the year’s most anticipated event. As the brothers chalked the fields and prepared for the tournament, the teams waited impatiently for their games to begin. Ten teams signed up for the tournament from all over Texas. As the music played and the whistle blew, the 4th annual Sugar Free Bowl was underway and weeks of hard work was evident. Everyone worked countless hours to make the event run smoothly. 

 

Although it was a challenging process, the reward was far greater. As a new brother, I learned a lot from this process. The event was a great success—not only in the monetary sense but also through the values of brotherhood, discipline, and commitment the brothers embodied. The older brothers of the fraternity constantly motivated and guided the new brothers throughout the process. On the day of the tournament, everyone stayed from the beginning till the end of the tournament sharing responsibilities from picking up trash to line judging,  

 

Personally, this process was a great learning experience. I had the opportunity to talk to local businesses and different Greek and non-Greek organizations, and attend the Student Senate meeting. But most importantly, this event brought me closer to my brothers. In the future, I hope to take over the responsibilities as SFB chair, learn from the past mistakes, and make Sugar Free Bowl an even bigger success at Baylor University. 

 

The brothers of Zeta Chapter will donate $1000 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Also, during the process the brothers raised $1300 from sponsorship. The brothers of Zeta Chapter would particularly like to thank The Vishal Bhagat Foundation for sponsoring the cost of the T-shirts. In the following years, Zeta Chapter hopes to increase the magnitude of Sugar Free Bowl.
