Joining DEPsi was a life changing event for me. Not only did it teach me three important values: Brotherhood, Discipline, and Commitment; it taught me to utilize these “pillars” into everyday life. Through brotherhood, I have learned to create everlasting bonds with not only with my brothers, but everyone I met along the way. Through discipline, I learned to conduct myself in a manner befitting as someone my parents could be proud of. Finally, through commitment, I learned to stick with anything I put my effort into until the very end. Even if this outcome is negative, it helped me to learn and achieve greater results next time around. The three pillars weren’t the only aspect I was able to incorporate into my life. Being in DEPsi and going to all the meetings helped me learn a lot about running an organization. What I mean by this is all the work we do to keep a chapter going. I learned a lot of the process we take to organize parties, do community service, and put together fundraisers. I have had the privilege of going with some of my “brothers” to meetings with people we work with such as JDRF as well as different community centers to organize events. From this, I learned what type of questions to ask, what type of feedback we’re looking for, as well as the benefits for us in the long run. I wouldn’t have known where to begin to schedule such things before joining. Before this, I was a lazy kid, I wouldn’t have done much of anything in the present. I would always put it off until the very end. I was like this with school work as well. DEPsi helped me to focus and not procrastinate and to get things done right away and do them effectively. It was also very helpful learning from my mistakes, like when I do something wrong, another “brother” would be there to help me solve it or point me in the right direction. This is what the fraternity does, it helps their own no matter what. This fraternity has helped me to become a better person. So, being a part of DEPsi is really a life changing event for me.
